Romania Schengen visa UK applications work differently from most Schengen countries. There's no VFS or TLS centre: you fill in the application on Romania's official eViza portal, then submit it in person at the Romanian consulate in London or Manchester. If you live in the UK on a non-British passport with a BRP or eVisa, you need this visa before visiting Bucharest, Transylvania or the Black Sea coast.
GoSchengen helps workers, students, spouses, ILR holders and refugees living in the UK get their Romania visa right first time. We help you complete the eViza form correctly, check your documents and prepare your cover letter and itinerary, so your file is ready for the consulate.

Yes. Romania joined the Schengen area for air and sea travel on 31 March 2024, and land border checks with other Schengen countries were lifted from 1 January 2025. Romania is now a full Schengen member, so a Romania visa is a standard short-stay Schengen visa (Type C).
That means it lets you stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period and, while it's valid, travel on to other Schengen countries, including neighbouring Hungary and Bulgaria. If another Schengen country issued your visa for your trip, it also covers Romania. Older Romanian national visas issued before March 2024 were valid for Romania only.
It depends on your passport, not on where you live:
| Your passport | Visa for Romania? |
|---|---|
| British citizen passport | No. Visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180 days |
| EU, EEA or Swiss passport | No. Free movement applies |
| Visa-exempt passports, such as US, Canadian or Australian | No visa for short visits, but the 90/180 rule applies |
| Visa-required passports, such as Indian, Pakistani, Nigerian, Bangladeshi, Ghanaian, Sri Lankan, Filipino or South African | Yes. You need a Schengen visa, even if you live in the UK |
Not on your BRP or eVisa alone. Your UK status lets you live in the UK, but it doesn't give visa-free entry to Romania. If your passport is visa-required, you apply for a Romania Schengen visa from the UK and use your BRP or eVisa as proof that you live here.
Romania has its own online visa system, eViza, run by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Here's how a Romania visa from the UK works, step by step:
| Step | What you do |
|---|---|
| 1. Check you need a visa | Use the visa check on eViza, and make sure Romania is your main destination |
| 2. Fill in the online form | Complete the Romania Schengen visa application form on eViza, with details that match your passport exactly |
| 3. Prepare your documents | Passport, BRP or eVisa evidence, bank statements, insurance, bookings and supporting letters |
| 4. Book your appointment | Book a submission appointment through eViza or by contacting the Romanian consulate that covers where you live |
| 5. Submit in person | Attend the consulate in London or Manchester with your originals, pay the fee and give fingerprints |
| 6. Track your application | Check the status online on eViza until the decision |
Romania follows the EU Visa Code. These are the core requirements for a short-stay visa from the UK.
Issued in the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages.
Your BRP, or your eVisa status and share code. Your UK permission should run well beyond your trip. We recommend at least 3 months.
Recent UK bank statements in your name, plus payslips and an employer letter, or self-employed or student evidence.
Covering all Schengen countries for your whole stay, including emergency treatment and repatriation.
A Romania visa file needs your eViza form, travel plans, finances and UK status to tell one consistent story. Our team reviews your file before your consulate appointment, so gaps are found early, not at the counter.
Passport, eViza form, photo and UK residence
Bank statements, income and sponsors
Bookings and travel insurance
Invitations, students and cover letter
Romania doesn't use VFS Global or TLScontact in the UK. You submit your Romania Schengen visa at the Romanian mission that covers where you live:
The consular section of the Embassy of Romania in London covers most of the UK, including London and the South. Book your appointment through eViza or by contacting the consulate.
At 9 Cooper Street, Manchester M2 2FW. It mainly covers the North of England. eViza directs your application to the right consulate based on where you live.
Be wary of anyone selling Romania visa appointments or "guaranteed" slots. Our Schengen visa appointment support is about getting your file ready, not selling slots.
| Item | What applies in the UK (2026) |
|---|---|
| Visa fee: adults and children 12+ | €90, paid in pounds at the consulate's rate |
| Visa fee: children aged 6 to 11 | €45 |
| Visa fee: children under 6 | Free |
| Visa centre service fee | None. Romania has no visa centre in the UK |
| When to apply | Up to 6 months before travel. Romania advises at least 2 weeks before |
| Processing time | Usually up to 15 calendar days, and up to 45 days in some cases |
| Length of stay | Up to 90 days in any 180-day period |
Fees are non-refundable. Fingerprints aren't taken from children under 12, and fingerprints given for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months may be reused.
A signed employer letter with your role, salary and approved leave, plus recent payslips.
Company registration, business bank statements and your HMRC Self Assessment.
A letter from your UK college or university confirming enrolment and attendance, plus proof of funds.
Proof of relationship, your sponsor's bank statements and a signed letter of support.
All three are the same Type C Schengen visa. Your trip purpose decides the supporting documents.
For Bucharest, Brașov, Bran Castle, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca or the Black Sea coast. You'll need an itinerary and bookings for every night. See the Schengen tourist visa.
For meetings, trade fairs and conferences, with an invitation from the Romanian company and a letter from your UK employer. See the Schengen business visa.
For visiting relatives or friends in Romania, with an invitation from your host and proof of relationship for family visits. See the Schengen visitor visa.
Apply to the country where you'll spend the most nights. If your nights are split equally, apply to the country you'll enter first.
No Schengen visa is automatic, and Romania applies the same EU rules as other Schengen countries. What makes the difference is a complete, consistent file: Romania as your main destination, a UK permission that runs well beyond your trip, steady finances, and eViza details that match your passport and bookings.
Already refused? Our Schengen visa refusal and reapplication service reviews your refusal letter first.
Tell us your dates, purpose, nationality and whether you hold a BRP or eVisa.
We help you fill in the eViza application form so every detail matches your passport and documents.
We check your file, flag gaps and help with your cover letter and itinerary.
You attend the Romanian consulate in London or Manchester with an organised file and give fingerprints.
Yes. Romania joined Schengen for air and sea travel on 31 March 2024 and became a full member with land border checks lifted from 1 January 2025. A Schengen visa now covers Romania.
British citizens don't, for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 days. If you live in the UK on a visa-required passport, such as an Indian, Pakistani or Nigerian passport, you need a Romania Schengen visa even with a BRP, eVisa or ILR.
Not with a BRP alone. If your passport is from a visa-required country, you need a Schengen visa for Romania. Your BRP or eVisa is used as proof of UK residence when you apply.
You fill in the application form online on Romania's eViza portal and can track it there, but you must still submit your file in person at the Romanian consulate and give your fingerprints.
The form is on eViza, the official online visa portal of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Avoid third-party websites that charge for the form.
At the Romanian consulate that covers where you live: the consular section in London, or the Consulate General in Manchester for much of the North of England. There is no VFS or TLS centre for Romania in the UK.
Book a submission appointment through the eViza portal or by contacting the Romanian consulate that covers where you live. Each traveller needs their own appointment.
The visa fee is €90 for adults and children 12 and over, €45 for children aged 6 to 11, and free for children under 6, paid in pounds. There's no visa centre service fee, because you apply directly at the consulate.
Usually up to 15 calendar days after you submit, and up to 45 days in some cases. Romania advises applying at least 2 weeks before travel, but earlier is safer.
Romania is a full Schengen member since 1 January 2025, so a standard Schengen visa covers it. Since 10 April 2026, the EU Entry/Exit System records non-EU travellers' fingerprints and photo at the border instead of passport stamps.
Romania applies the same EU rules as other Schengen countries. Your chances depend on a complete, consistent file, enough funds, Romania being your main destination, and eViza details that match your documents.
Only if Romania is where you'll spend the most nights, or your first entry point when nights are equal. Otherwise, apply to the country that is your main destination.
No. British citizens can visit Romania visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180 days. The visa service on this page is for non-British passport holders living in the UK.
