IMPORTANT BEFORE YOU APPLY

Ireland is not part of the Schengen Area

An Irish visa is separate from a Schengen visa. If you live in the UK with a Skilled Worker, Student, Spouse, Refugee, ILR or another immigration status, your UK permission alone does not automatically allow travel to Ireland.

For most non-British travellers, the key question is the nationality shown on the passport—or the country that issued the travel document. Limited waiver arrangements may apply in specific circumstances, but these must be checked against current official rules before travel.

GoSchengen can help you organise the application, but only the Irish authorities decide whether a visa is issued and whether entry is permitted at the border.

Which traveller profile applies to you?

Choose the closest profile below. Your final requirement must still be confirmed using the official Irish nationality and visa guidance.

01

British citizens

British and Irish citizens can travel within the Common Travel Area. A visa is generally not required, although your carrier may request valid identification.

Generally no visa
03

Non-visa-required nationals

You may not need an entry visa for a short visit, but you remain subject to immigration control and should carry evidence supporting your trip.

04

Travel document holders

The requirement can depend on the country that issued your travel document. Refugee and stateless travel-document rules require a specific check.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Ireland visa questions from UK residents

Clear answers to the questions customers ask most often before starting an application.

Is Ireland included in a Schengen visa?+

No. Ireland is not part of the Schengen Area. A Schengen visa is not valid for travel to Ireland.

Can I visit Ireland using my UK BRP or eVisa?+

A UK BRP, eVisa or long-term UK residence permission does not automatically remove the Irish visa requirement. Your nationality or travel-document position must be checked.

How early can I apply for a Short Stay ‘C’ visa?+

Official Irish guidance states that a Short Stay ‘C’ application can be made up to three months before the intended travel date.

Can I stay in Ireland for up to 90 days?+

A Short Stay ‘C’ route is used for visits of up to 90 days, but the visa officer determines the visa validity and immigration permission at the border.

Does GoSchengen guarantee approval?+

No. We provide independent preparation and document-support services. Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant Irish authorities.

Can a UK short-stay visa ever cover Ireland?+

Limited arrangements may apply to certain eligible nationalities and qualifying UK short-stay visas. The rules are specific and can change, so eligibility should be checked against the current official Short Stay Visa Waiver guidance.
