Slovakia Schengen visa UK applications are submitted in person at an authorised visa application centre in London or Edinburgh, not at the embassy itself. If you live in the UK on a non-British passport with a BRP or eVisa, you need this visa before visiting Bratislava, Košice or the High Tatras.
GoSchengen helps workers, students, spouses, ILR holders and refugees living in the UK get their Slovakia visa right first time. We check your documents against the embassy's UK rules, including the strict 3-month residence permit rule, prepare your cover letter and itinerary, and guide you to the right appointment.

Yes. Slovakia has been part of the Schengen area since December 2007, and it's a member of the EU that uses the euro. Its neighbours Austria, Czechia, Hungary and Poland are also in Schengen, so there are normally no routine passport checks when you cross between them. Slovakia's border with Ukraine, however, is an external Schengen border with full checks.
So a Slovakia visa is a standard short-stay Schengen visa (Type C). It lets you stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period and, while it's valid, travel on to other Schengen countries. If another Schengen country issued your visa for your trip, it also covers Slovakia.
It depends on your passport, not on where you live:
| Your passport | Visa for Slovakia? |
|---|---|
| British citizen passport | No. Visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180 days |
| EU, EEA or Swiss passport | No. Free movement applies |
| Visa-exempt passports, such as US, Canadian or Australian | No visa for short visits, but the 90/180 rule applies |
| Visa-required passports, such as Indian, Pakistani, Nigerian, Bangladeshi, Ghanaian, Sri Lankan, Filipino or South African | Yes. You need a Schengen visa, even if you live in the UK |
Not on your BRP or eVisa alone. Your UK status lets you live in the UK, but it doesn't give visa-free entry to Slovakia. If your passport is visa-required, you apply for a Slovakia Schengen visa in the UK and use your BRP or eVisa as proof of UK residence.
The Slovak embassy's UK rules are stricter than many Schengen countries on UK residence validity. Check these four points before you book.
Your UK residence permit or visa must be valid at least 3 months after you plan to leave the Schengen area. Many applicants miss this.
Valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, issued in the last 10 years, with at least 2 blank pages.
Recent UK bank statements in your name, plus payslips and an employer letter, or self-employed or student evidence.
Covering all Schengen countries for your whole stay, including emergency treatment and repatriation.
A Slovakia visa file needs your travel plans, finances, accommodation and UK status to tell one consistent story. Our team reviews your file before your appointment, so gaps are found early, not at the counter.
The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in London doesn't accept Schengen visa applications in person. You submit your application through an authorised visa application centre in London or Edinburgh, and the embassy makes the decision.
Be wary of anyone selling Slovakia visa appointments or "guaranteed" slots. Our Schengen visa appointment support is about getting you ready, not selling slots.
Partly. You fill in the Slovakia Schengen visa application form and book your appointment online, but you can't submit the visa fully online. You must attend the centre in person with your signed form, original documents and passport, and give your fingerprints.

Fees are non-refundable. Fingerprints aren't taken from children under 12, and fingerprints given for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months may be reused.
No Schengen visa is automatic, and Slovakia applies the same EU rules as every other Schengen country. What makes the difference is a complete, consistent file: the right country, a UK permission that runs at least 3 months past your trip, steady finances and bookings that match your form. Most avoidable refusals come from weak or inconsistent documents.
A signed employer letter with your role, salary and approved leave, plus recent payslips.
Company registration, business bank statements and your HMRC Self Assessment.
A letter from your UK college or university confirming enrolment and attendance, plus proof of funds.
Proof of relationship, your sponsor's bank statements and a signed letter of support.
All three are the same Type C Schengen visa. Your trip purpose decides the supporting documents.
For Bratislava's old town and castle, Košice, spa towns or hiking in the High Tatras. You'll need an itinerary and bookings for every night. See the Schengen tourist visa.
For meetings, trade fairs and conferences, with an invitation letter from the Slovak company and a letter from your UK employer. See the Schengen business visa.
For visiting relatives or friends in Slovakia, with an invitation from your host and proof of relationship for family visits. See the Schengen visitor visa.
Bratislava is about an hour from Vienna, and many UK travellers combine Slovakia with Austria, Czechia or Hungary. Apply to the country where you'll spend the most nights. If your nights are split equally, apply to the country you'll enter first.
Applying to Slovakia just because an appointment is available, when another country is your main destination, can lead to a refusal.
Already refused? Our Schengen visa refusal and reapplication service reviews your refusal letter first.
Tell us your dates, purpose, nationality and whether you hold a BRP or eVisa.
We check every document, including your 3-month UK validity, and flag gaps before you book.
We help with your form, cover letter and itinerary, and guide you to the right centre in London or Edinburgh.
You attend with an organised file and cash for the fee, give fingerprints and wait for the decision.

Yes. A valid Schengen visa issued by another Schengen country covers travel to Slovakia during its validity, as long as you applied to the right country for your main destination.
British citizens don't. If you live in the UK on a visa-required passport, such as an Indian, Pakistani or Nigerian passport, you need a Slovakia Schengen visa even with a BRP, eVisa or ILR.
At an authorised visa application centre in London or Edinburgh, booked online. The Slovak embassy in London doesn't take applications in person, but it makes the decision on every application.
At least 3 months beyond the date you plan to leave the Schengen area. This is stricter than some other Schengen countries, so check your BRP or eVisa expiry before you book.
The visa fee is €90 for adults and children 12 and over, €45 for children aged 6 to 11, and free for children under 6. The embassy collects it in cash, in pounds, on the day you apply. The centre's service fee is separate.
The standard processing time is 15 calendar days from when your application is accepted. It can take up to 45 days if extra checks are needed.
You complete the form and book your appointment online, but the application isn't fully online. You attend the centre in person with your signed form, originals and passport, and give your fingerprints.
No Schengen visa is guaranteed. Slovakia follows the same EU rules as other Schengen countries, so your chances depend on a complete, consistent file, enough funds, and a UK permission valid at least 3 months beyond your trip.
Yes. Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa for Slovakia. If you live in the UK, you apply here at the visa application centre in London or Edinburgh, with your passport and BRP or eVisa evidence.
If you live in Pakistan, you apply through Slovakia's visa arrangements for Pakistan. If you're a Pakistani national living in the UK, you apply here in London or Edinburgh with your UK residence evidence.
Only if Slovakia is where you'll spend the most nights, or your first entry point when nights are equal. Otherwise, apply to the country that is your main destination.
No. British citizens can visit Slovakia visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180 days. The visa service on this page is for non-British passport holders living in the UK.
